What am I purchasing?
You are purchasing a "Colorado Support The Troops" specialty license plate. A guarantee of at least 93% of the $25.00 donation you make to American Military Family, Inc. (AMF) will be returned to the Colorado Military and Their Families (that includes, active duty, guard, reserves and veterans within the state of Colorado only).

Can I bring my payment directly to American Military Family (AMF) and receive my certificate the same day?
No, due to the high demand for this plate, please allow 1-2 weeks for processing your application and donation. Your AMF Certificate will be sent to the same address that your vehicle is registered to.

My current vehicle registration expires in a week, what can I do?
Go ahead and renew your current license plates. Once you receive your AMF Certificate, you can take it to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and transfer your registration to the Support the Troops license Plates. Please contact your local County Motor Vehicle Office for details and information on fees.

My current vehicle registration doesn't expired until December 2007. Do I have to wait until then to get my Support The Troops license plates?
No, you can take your AMF Certificate to your Colorado County Motor Vehicle office anytime after July 1, 2007. The Dept. of Motor Vehicles will issue a credit for any unused months left on your registration. (e.g.: If your vehicles registration expires in December 2007, but you renew in July 2007, you will receive a 5 month credit for the months that were unused. Your new registration cycle will be July 2007 - July 2008. However, you are welcome to wait until your current registration is expired Before you switch over to the Colorado Support The Troops license plate.

What is the cost of the Support the Troops license plate?
A one time fee of $25.00 made payable to American Military Family, Inc. Your usual vehicle registration taxes and fees are due and made payable to your local Department of Motor Vehicles.

Do I need to pay American Military Family, Inc. the $25.00 donation every year when I pay my registration taxes and fees?
No. Individuals are not required to make an annual donation to American Military Family in order to keep the license plates.

Does making the donation to American Military Family, Inc. guarantee that I will get a Colorado Support the Troops license plate?
Initially, there will be a limited number of Colorado Support the Troops license Plates available at each Colorado County Motor Vehicle office. If your County Motor Vehicles office runs out of Support the Troops license plates before you get yours, there may be a delay of a couple of months as they replenish their stock.

When will the Support the Troops license plates be available?
The plates will be released on July 1, 2007.

Are applications and donations being accepted now?
Yes. Due to the high demand for this plate, we strongly recommend that you complete the application and donation at this time. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing your application and donation. Your Certificate will be mailed via U. S. Postal Service to the same address in which the vehicle is registered.

Is my donation Tax deductible?
Yes, your donation is tax deductible. You will receive a receipt, so stating.

Is there an application deadline?
No, there is no application deadline. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing your Application and donation.

If I wanted to purchase a Support The Troops license plate for a friend or family member, could the AMF Certificate be sent to a different name and address than the one on the registration?
No, the AMF Certificate must be sent to the address and to the name of the person on the vehicle registration.

Can I submit my application and donation online?
Yes. By submitting your application and donation on line you have the benefit of paying by PayPal, Visa or Master Card.

If I want to place a set of Support the Troops license plates on more than one vehicle, do I need to complete more than one application form?
Yes, you must complete one application form and pay one donation fee of $25.00 for each set of license plates you wish to purchase. (Note: One set of plates per vehicle consists of (1) front plate and (1) rear plate).

If I live out of state, can I purchase a Support the Troops license plate?
No, sorry, Colorado Support the Troops license plates are only available to Colorado Residents. The Department of Motor Vehicles can not issue a license plate to an out of state vehicle.

Could I purchase a "dummy" or "sample" Support the Troops license plate?
No, sorry, the Department of Motor Vehicles can not issue vanity or sample plates.

Can I purchase a Support the Troops license plate for a motor cycle, truck or Motor home?
Yes. The Colorado Support the Troops license plate is available to a motor cycle, automobile, truck or motor home.

Can I take my application and donation to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles?
No. the Dept. of Motor Vehicles cannot accept the donation to American Military Family, Inc. Please complete the application and donation process on Line at www.AmericanMilitaryFamily.org or mail your application and donation to:

If I want to purchase a Colorado Support The Troops license plate, can I keep my existing license plate number and letters?
No. Sorry, a new plate and number will be issued.

If I currently own a personalized license plate and now wish to purchase a Colorado Support The Troops license plate, can I transfer my personalized plate information onto the Support The Troops plate?
If you have a current issued personalized plate and want to convert it over to the Support The Troops license plate, you need to reapply, requesting the transfer of the personalization and pay all necessary taxes and fees.

I currently have Handicap Plates on my vehicle. Am I able to keep my handicap plates and still have a Support the Troops plate?
You will not be able to keep the Handicap plates on the vehicle that you put the Support the Troops plates on. You can have either the Handicap plate alone or the Support the Troops plate with Handicap Placards. Contact your County Dept. of Motor Vehicle for assistance and the application for the Handicap Placards.
