 Fact Sheet

Our Intention: – To raise awareness and funds for our Troops and their Families – culminating in a 1,050 mile journey, by foot from Ft Carson, Colorado Springs to the Middle East Memorial Wall in Marseilles, Illinois.  Michelle and Dan Benavidez, Proud Gold Star parents of Fallen Hero Army Staff Sgt Kennith W. Mayne, will walk every step of the way, supported by anyone who may choose to travel with them – by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, car, van or bus.

Our Purpose:  To educate Americans about the service and sacrifice paid daily by our Troops and their Families.  Our troops and their families demonstrate honor, respect, sacrifice, loyalty and patriotism. It is imperative that we appreciate these qualities and support our military family to the best of our ability.

Our Objectives:  Encourage as many Americans, Troops, Veterans and Veteran organizations to get involved, by physically or virtually walking in Honor of a Military Hero, Fallen Warrior, Veteran or Active Duty Service Member.  A concerted effort to locate as many Vietnam Veterans as possible will be a key thrust of the journey.  We want all Veterans to know that their service and sacrifice was appreciated and honored.  We want to raise funds for AMF Programs, as well as raise enough funds to facilitate grants to other military non-profit organizations who have been struggling for funds to tend to the needs of our Troops and their Families.

Our Journey:    The American Military Family Honor Rally campaign will begin on April 13, 2012, departing from Gate 1 at Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs and will culminate at the Middle East Memorial Wall in Marseilles, Illinois on June 15, 2012.  We will be marketing and promoting this walk and why this Gold Star Family has chosen to walk every step of the way.  AMF will be encouraging as many Americans to get involved in this walk – A “Forest Gump” kind of journey……”It’s not about the destination – It’s about the journey” – Raising awareness – Raising Funds – All in Honor of our Troops and their Families who are serving or have served this Great Nation.

Our (AMF) Mission: “To honor and support all members of the United States military and their families through financial assistance, emotional support, and collaborative efforts with other nonprofit organizations and volunteers who together strive to assist those serving in their time of need”.
